Hedera helix is a species of flowering plant in the family Araliaceae.

A rampant, clinging evergreen vine, it is a familiar sight in gardens, waste spaces, on walls, tree trunks, and in wild areas across its native habitat commonly known as English ivy, is a vigorous, fast-growing, woody evergreen perennial that is primarily grown as a climbing vine or trailing ground cover. Although commonly grown as a hanging plant indoors, its aerial roots can easily be trained to climb a moss stick or trellis. It thrives in cold and low-light situations. According to NASA, it is one of the best air purifier plants that removes harmful chemicals like benzene, formaldehyde, xylene from the surrounding air.

Sunlight

Morning sunlight of 1-3 hours a day is ideal and plants grow well in bright light for the rest of the day.

Protect the English Ivy from harsh sunlight as it can cause damage to the foliage.

Soil The soil should be well-drained, fertile, and rich in organic content for growing English Ivy plants.

WateringPoke your finger/plain small stick into the soil to check the moisture.

Apply 1 cup(approx.50ml) of water when the topsoil (1-2 inches) in the pot feels dry to touch.

Do not overwater the plant.

As a rule of thumb, water the plants thoroughly in summer and reduce watering in the winter and rainy seasons.

Water should be applied preferably in the morning or evening.

Application of FertilizerBefore application of fertilizer loosen the topsoil without disturbing the roots of the plant, it can uptake the nutrients and moisture easily.

Apply organic fertilizer once a month.

Apply water immediately after application of fertilizer.

Plant ProtectionRemove dead, infected, or damaged plant parts and discard them away from the plants.

For any insect attack or disease, you can use Neem oil, Eucalyptus oil or Citrus oil spray for primary treatment.

 

Don’t Do overwater the plant especially when the pot doesn’t have a drainage hole.

Avoid applying water on leaves in the hot afternoon because it may cause fungus infection.

Do not re-pot for min. 2 weeks after receiving it.
