Planting And Care
Sunlight
It will take partial shade but is happiest in full sun.
Soil
Use Topsoil or organic peat moss as a soil.
Watering
Water the plant if it feels dry to touch the topsoil.
You can check the moister by poking small stick or finger into the soil.
Add 4 cups (200ml) of water when it feels dry to touch.
Over-watering is not recommended.
A handsome amount of water is preferred in the summers while reducing the same in the rainy season.
The best time to water the plant is in the morning or in the evening.
Application of Fertilizer
The fertilizers specially formulated for palm trees should be applied to the plant.
The fertilizers should be given in a ratio of 8-2-12-4 Mg with micro-nutrients.
The nitrogen should be in the form of resin-coated urea or ammonium salts, urea-formaldehyde or sulfur-coated urea.
The potassium should be in the form of sulfur-coated potassium sulfate and the magnesium should be prilled kieserite.
The micro-nutrients such as manganese sulfate, iron chelate, and slow-release boron are preferred.
Re-potting
A plant should be re-potted with some fresh potting soil and fertilizers when it outgrows the current pot.
The re-potting should be done late in the evening and it should be kept in the shady place for 2-3 days to provide the suitable climate conditions.
Plant Protection
A dead, infected or damaged part should be disposed away from the planting area.
A natural spray of Neem, Eucalyptus or Citrus oil should be given in case of any insect/pest attack, as a primary treatment.
Don’ts
Avoid over-watering this plant when the pot doesn’t have any drainage holes.
Don’t apply water in the hot afternoon because it may cause fungus infection.
