Asplenium nidus Crissie fern


An evergreen, Crissie fern, is an epiphytic fern with a short and large rhizome and leaves respectively. The leaves can be 15 cm long and 20 cm wide.

Among other available ferns that can be grown indoors, it has larger leaflets than many others that gives this plant large and full leaf foliage plant look.


About Asplenium Nidus Crissie Fern

This special fern grows in the form of a deep rosette with large, shiny, spear-shaped fronds. The new fronds emerges from the middle of the plant. The spear-like shaped leaves gives this plant its characteristic different look.

Planting And Care


The shade should be applied partially with some indirect sunlight.



A well-drained soil with rich content is preferred.



Water the plant if it feels dry to touch the topsoil.

You can check the moister by poking small stick or finger into the soil.

Add 4 cups (200ml) of water when it feels dry to touch.

Over-watering is not recommended.

A moderate amount of water is preferred.


Application of Fertilizer

Any sort of organic fertilizer should be applied.

Only two or three time the fertilizer should be applied as too much of fertilizer will cause deformed leaves with brown or yellow spots or edges.

Only the half length of the plant should be provided with fertilizers and that too only in the season of spring and summers.

A plant should be re-potted with some fresh potting soil and fertilizers when it outgrows the current pot.

The re-potting should be done late in the evening and it should be kept in the shady place for 2-3 days to provide the suitable climate conditions.


Plant Protection

A dead, infected or damaged part should be disposed away from the planting area.

A natural spray of Neem, Eucalyptus or Citrus oil should be given in case of any insect/pest attack, as a primary treatment.



Avoid over-watering this plant when the pot doesn’t have any drainage holes.

Don’t apply water in the hot afternoon because it may cause fungus infection.
